Massage Therapy Program

This 700 hour program meets or exceeds requirements to sit for the State and National Certification Board (NCTMB) Exams.

Science of the Human Body - 200 Hours total includes:

ANAT 1: 100 hours of Anatomy and Myology/Kinesiology. Special emphasis is placed on the muscular and skeletal systems, which is the basis of a massage therapy program.

PHYS 1:80 hours of Physiology. This course involves learning the function of the body from a cellular to a systemic level, Special emphasis is placed on the nervous and lymphatic systems as they relate to the practice of massage.

PATH 1: 20 hours of Pathology, including medical terminology This course involves learning diseases and disorders that relate to the practice of massage.

Massage Theory Practicum - 200 Hours total includes:

MTP 1: 190 hours of Massage Theory and Practicum. This course includes the history of massage philosophy, benefits, indications contra-indications, career opportunities and wide variety of massage techniques. Students develop the skills related to depth of touch and sensitivity through learning a set of full body massage routines. Range of motion movements, stretches, table use, draping methods and body mechanics will be explored and perfected. Also included are the foundational massage techniques necessary to developing a successful massage therapist such as Swedish Massage and Deep Tissue Massage.

LAW 1:10 hours of Legalities including MS Massage law and ethics.

Allied Modalities - 200 Hours total includes:

AM 1: 108 hours of Allied Modalities include introductions to a variety of techniques that may be further explored postgraduate such as Shiatsu, Therapeutic Touch, Reiki, Myofascial release, Cranio Sacral, Infant Massage, Elderly Massage, Polarity, Pet and Equine Massage as well as others will give WCTM graduates an opportunity to develop their professional interests. Federal requirements for special needs populations, ADA, will be covered.
CPF 1: 8 hours CPR, First Aid and HIV.

HYD 1: 25 hours of Hydrotherapy/lnfrared Heat. This course involves studying the theory and practical application of water for healing. Safe ranges of temperatures for heat packs, paraffin baths, hot stone massage techniques, etc, will be explored.

CDR 1: 30 hours of Charting, documentation and referral. Students will learn and utilize industry standard forms for charting and documentation of all massage sessions as well as how to refer to the appropriate health care professional when a situation exceeds the scope of practice for massage therapist.

REV 1: 16 hours of Comprehensive Review to prepare the student to pass the State and National Exams, EXAM 1: 3 hours to sit for the State comprehensive exam.

Clinical - 100 Hours total includes:

CLIN 1: Students will perform a minimum of 50, one hour massage sessions and document techniques used with each client using standard practices for Soap Charting. Classroom hours will be spent with the instructor to enhance the learning experience for a total of 100 hours.
